How to Choose the Perfect Personalised Gift

A personalised gift is an item that has been given a personal touch by the sender; whether it’s adding a name, message, or photograph. Personalised gifts are personal to a specific person and only they can have the joy of using or displaying it.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a personalised gift:

Reasoning behind the gift

Are you looking for a birthday present or a thank you gift? A new baby present or “just because” gift? The occasion and reasoning behind the gift plays a big part in what the present should be.

Don’t stereotype!

It’s important to remember not to stereotype genders and their likes and dislikes eg. men only like football, women love flowers, boys like dinosaurs and only girls like the colour pink. When it comes to a personalised gift, thinking about the person as an individual is key! Take the time to think about what the person you’re buying the gift for likes, don’t try to opt for a “safe bet”. It can be beneficial to jot down the recipient’s likes, hobbies, favourite colour etc. to help you when it comes to choosing the ideal gift.

Useful Gifts

There’s more to personalised gifts than just adding a name, message, or photograph to any old item. Lots of personalised gifts can be very useful and resourceful for the recipient. Do they drink hot drinks? Choose a personalised mug or travel mug. Do they enjoy reading? Choose a personalised bookmark. Useful personalised gifts not only remind the recipient of memories, but they can become part of their everyday life. It’s a good idea to become familiar with a person’s hobbies and everyday lifestyle.

Check, check and check again!

If you’re adding text to a gift, make sure you triple check your spelling and grammar! There’s nothing worse than gifting a personalised gift with their name or words in a message spelt incorrectly. Remember, once you’ve purchased your item and it’s been made, you can’t undo it! We recommend asking another person to glance over your personalisation before clicking submit.

Presentation counts!

When receiving a gift, presentation is very important! There’s a HUGE difference between being given a gift in a carrier bag and being given a gift that has been wrapped in gift wrap with some ribbon and/or a gift tag or popped inside a gift bag. Whilst the gift on the inside remains the same, the presentation shows how you feel about the person. Taking five minutes out of your day to gift wrap, could make the person smile even before they get to the gift! It shows that time and effort has gone into choosing their gift.

What do you think? What do you consider when it comes to buying a gift? I’d love to read your thoughts and opinions.
